Quick answer
It's worth it for a piece whose size you already know and that can wait for delivery. For an urgent purchase or a piece you need to try on, it isn't. What decides it is the delivery estimate the product page shows for your address.
When it pays off and when it doesn't
It pays off when three things are on your side: you know the size, you aren't in a hurry, and the order comes to an amount the store ships for free. SHEIN has a huge catalog and low prices, and that comes with a cost the page doesn't charge: time and attention to the description. An international order takes a few days just to leave the warehouse, and delivery comes after that. There is no trying it on first: if it doesn't fit, the way out is the return process the store describes in its help center.
For whom: the basic piece you always buy, like a T-shirt, leggings or pajamas, and an occasion piece with a month to spare. When not: a gift for next week, an outfit for an event with a fixed date, and any expensive piece you need to see on before deciding.
The decision is made on the product page, before the cart: that's where the shipping type, the delivery estimate and the material are. Checkout only confirms what you should already know.
Delivery: how long to wait
The exact estimate is on the product page, before the cart, and changes with your address. For clothes needed by a date, add a week of slack to the longest time on the page, so a return doesn't turn into a rush.
When not: an order for a gift with a fixed day, because the estimate can slip.
Returns
The return policy for your country is in the SHEIN help center: read it before ordering, because the time limit, the cost and what can't be returned change the math.
Someone who buys to try on at home, as in a physical store, is not the profile here: the fitting room is the measurements, covered in the next section.
Size: the measurements, not the letter
SHEIN's M isn't your M: each piece has its own size guide in centimeters, and that is what decides, not the letter. Rule of thumb, not tested by us: measure a garment you own that fits you well, lying flat, and compare it with the measurement in the piece's guide, not with your body measurements; the difference between the two is the room you like. A piece without a guide in centimeters is one to skip. What to measure for each type of garment, and how to read each product's guide, is in the SHEIN size guide.
Before paying
- The product page states the shipping type and the delivery estimate; check them before the cart.
- Read the full description: material, lining and washing. A coat that is dry-clean only and has no lining is not a nice surprise when the box arrives.
- Keep the confirmation and the tracking number: the return and the lost-package claim both depend on them.
The is not a coupon and gives no discount: it's SHEIN's referral code, which you search for in the app's search bar, and it doesn't stack with anything. The store's rules are on the SHEIN page. Who runs the store and its reputation are covered in Is SHEIN trustworthy?.
Who it's worth it for
"If it were for my own home, I'd take the basic T-shirt; I'd leave the wool coat on the rack."Cecília Mauad
- For everyday basics, like T-shirts, leggings and socks: worth it, on an order that clears the free-shipping minimum.
- For an occasion piece with a month to spare: worth it, if you read the description and the piece's size guide.
- For anyone with a fixed date: no local shipping, so skip it.
- For an expensive piece, wool or tailoring: worth it only for someone who already knows their size and accepts returning it instead of trying it on.
- For anyone who needs to try it on first: no.
Buy it if
- You already know the piece's size in centimeters and can wait for the delivery the product page shows.
- The order gathers basics you would buy anyway and clears the free-shipping minimum.
- The description gives the material, lining and washing, and none of that is a surprise for you.
Skip it if
- The piece has to arrive on a fixed date and has no local shipping: processing and delivery rarely fit into a week.
- You need to try it on before buying: if it doesn't fit, the way out is the return.
- The piece is expensive and you haven't read the washing and lining: a coat that is dry-clean only and has no lining is only for someone who already knows what they want.
